Experience and Skills
BSc Geology | Upper Second Class Honours | University of Birmingham | Sep 2019 – Jul 2022
Throughout my time in the School of Geography, Earth, and Environmental Sciences, I studied a wide variety of subjects, including but not limited to:
- Sedimentology
- Geophysics
- Hydrology
- Palaeoecology
- Palaeoclimates
- Rock Mechanics
- Resource Geology
- Structural Geology
- Geological Field Skills
- Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology
- Environmental Research in High Latitudes
- Climate Change in Earth Systems
My culmination of my undergraduate was a dissertation entitled ‘A Reconstruction of Ocean Circulation During the Middle Eocene Climatic Optimum (MECO)‘, which used oxygen, carbon, and neodymium isotopes to establish changes to circulation pathways and global heat transport in the oceans during an ancient warming event.
Some other notable assignments I completed during my studies include:
- An Integrated Biotic and Geochemical Report on the Palaeocene Eocene Thermal Maximum
- The Effectiveness and Impact of The Stratospheric Sulphate Injection Climate Policy
- Controls on the Extent of Combustion in Wildfire Simulation Models
- Inception and Evolution of Ice Sheets During the Cenozoic
Museum Intern | Lapworth Museum of Geology | Aug 2021

In the summer of my second year, I briefly joined the Lapworth team as an intern and spent my time cataloging and accessioning over 1000 Carboniferous fossils. Each box of specimens had to be weighed and colour coded for safe handling and storage, and a few of the more interesting objects were photographed and posted to the museum’s social media accounts. As my internship coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, I also took part in the museum’s efforts to ensure their collections remained accessible to the public despite the lockdown restrictions. To do this, I used a light scanner and rotating stage to digitize a range of rock samples and objects from the museum’s stores, aligned and textured them using Artec Studio, and finally uploaded them to the Lapworth’s Sketchfab page, where they could be viewed remotely.

J.A.R.E Airline Training Partnership | 2015
I took part in an aviation experience with J.A.R.E in Christchurch, during which I was training in a variety of skills, such as in-flight service and cabin evacuation and rescue, including how to use the emergency evacuation slide.
Apps For Good | 2015
In 2015, I was a finalist in the national Apps For Good competition, where participants had to design an original app to solve a real-world problem. My team’s app, Penny-A-Mile, was designed to help tackle Britain’s obesity crisis by removing the shame surrounding fitness and creating a supportive, accessible space for users to pursue their exercise goals.
The app tracked users’ steps via an in-built pedometer, converting them into miles, and encouraged them to set and meet monthly ‘step goals’ via a sponsorship system, whereby friends and family could support one another by offering donations as little as a penny per mile to a charity of the user’s choice, which would be donated once the goal was met. Not only did this make the app more accessible for people who could not exercise in more conventional ways (such as gyms and marathons), it also provided the user with a support network to keep them motivated and proud of their achievements.
We developed the app in line with an appropriate business model and target demographics analyses, and once we’d built the technical prototype, pitched it to a team of investors in London. Despite losing out on first place, the competition was an amazing opportunity to gain an insight into the world of business and web design.
